The RE Scenario in India
The renewable energy sector in India has seen a tremendous growth with the world’s largest renewable energy expansion program taking the total capacity of RE to 175 GW till 2022.
India has moved to the 4th position globally for overall installed RE Capacity and achieved its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) commitment 9 years in advance after crossing the 40% installed capacity target from non-fossil sources in November 2021 itself.
The change in regulations and technical advancements lead to The Installed solar capacity increase from 2.6 GW to 46 GW , the wind capacity saw an addition of 5.5 GW leading to the total renewable energy installed capacity increase by 286% in the last 7.5 years. A record low solar tariff of Rs 1.99/ unit has also been achieved making solar power more affordable.
As per a report by the Reserve Bank of India, Karnataka stands to be first among all the Indian states in respect of the total installed power of grid-interactive renewable energy with the total capacity at 15,463 megawatts (mw) followed by Tamil Nadu (15,225 mw), Gujarat(13,153 mw), Maharashtra (10,267 mw)
